Wind is the main driver of Lake Albert’s weather. No. The lake is too shallow and exposed to coastal air to form ice. Minimum winter temperatures rarely drop below 5°C, and the lake’s salinity also lowers its freezing point.
Why does the lake’s temperature change so quickly?
Because of its shallow depth – most of the lake is less than two metres deep. A change in wind direction or cloud cover can alter the water temperature by 2–3°C in under an hour, much faster than deeper lakes.
