Live forecasts update automatically; written guidance last reviewed 23 June 2026 by the Coast Monitor Weather Desk. Data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and other national met services via Open-Meteo.
The Mildura weather radar delivers live rainfall detection and storm tracking for northwestern Victoria and parts of southwestern New South Wales. Operated by the Bureau of Meteorology, it is most active during spring and summer when thunderstorms and heavy showers are common across the Mallee region.
What area does the Mildura radar cover?
The radar at Mildura Airport has a 128‑km range, scanning from the South Australian border east to around Lake Cullulleraine and south to the Big Desert. It provides detailed coverage for Mildura itself, Wentworth, Ouyen and Robinvale. For a broader outlook, the 512‑km national radar composite can show approaching systems, but the 128‑km product gives the best local detail.
How do you read the radar?
Colour indicates rainfall intensity: light blue (showers) through to red and purple (heavy rain or hail). The image updates every six minutes. Note that terrain south of the radar can cause some signal loss, so lighter rain in that direction may not be fully shown. Always combine the radar with local observations for the most accurate picture of current mildura weather.
What do the colours on the Mildura radar mean?
Light blue indicates light showers, green is moderate rain, yellow‑orange is heavy rain, and red‑purple shows very heavy rain or hail. White areas are the most intense cores, often associated with thunderstorms.
Can the Mildura radar see rain in Rutherglen or Deniliquin?
Not reliably – those towns are more than 128 km from the radar. For areas beyond that range, use the nearest radar (e.g., Wagga Wagga for Deniliquin) or the national composite. The mildura radar 128 km product is best for local use.
Does the radar show wind or temperature?
No – it only detects precipitation particles. For wind and temperature data, check Bureau of Meteorology weather stations or a dedicated weather site. Combined with the live radar above, you can get a full picture of mildura radar 512 today patterns.
